Sapphire Lesion Detection System – Advancements in Oral Cancer Screening
 Dr. Lee has always made oral cancer evaluation an important part of the patient examination process. Our dental practice now offers a new weapon in the fight against oral cancer, the Sapphire Oral Lesion Detection System. This process is quick and painless, and in most cases can be done at your regular check up appointments. With this new technology, we use a specialized light with a specific wave length, and by shining this light in your mouth and looking through the viewing scope we can see normal tissue that reflects light and cancerous areas which show up much darker. It is a simple process yet very technologically advanced. Dr. Lee and his staff are excited to offer this life saving diagnostic tool to our patients.
Our practice strives to provide patients with the latest innovations in dental instruments which require less time in the dental chair, cause less discomfort and create very satisfying results.
When it comes to combating oral cancer, early detection of oral lesions is a key factor. While most oral lesions are benign, there are some lesions that could lead to cancer or may already be cancerous. Getting screened by Dr. Lee during your appointment is an effective way to discover oral cancer at an early, highly curable stage. The traditional method of examination is by visual and physical inspection of the oral cavity, throat, and neck. This method can be effective, but often oral cancer doesn’t show symptoms until later stages when it is harder to treat.
The Sapphire Lesion Detection System will help us to detect these types of cancer at an early stage when they would be more difficult to detect by our normal manual oral cancer evaluation. Digital X-Ray
A dental digital x-ray (radiography) system can take a picture of your
teeth, and enable Dr. Lee to show it to you while you are still sitting in
your dental chair. You no longer had to wait for the x-ray to develop as it
is instantaneous. With this technology, we can zoom in on a single tooth and sharpen it, all of which can aid in your diagnosis.
Digital imaging offers the advantage of an 80% reduction in radiation, no
need for film or processing chemicals, production of a nearly instantaneously
image, and the ability to use color contrast in the image. |
